Firefighters in docklands drill

Drill: Firefighters in action during the large scale training session in Preston.

Firefighters from across Lancashire took part in a large safety exercise at Preston Docks.

Crews from Preston, Penwortham, Fulwood, Leyland, Bamber Bridge, Lancaster and Chorley descended on the fuel firm Totalfina Bitumen’s base in Chain Caul Way for the drill.

Fire safety manager, Brad Walker, who organised the exercise, said: “We wanted to simulate an emergency response to a fire at an industrial location and Totalfina’s generosity enabled us to do that.

“Training such as this is vital, giving us the chance to reconstruct a realistic scenario such as we could be called upon to deal with anywhere in the county, and enabling us to test our response capabilities in challenging, but controlled, conditions.

“Firefighters regularly carry out training exercises, but rarely on this scale.”
