Firefighters attended nine wheelie bin or rubbish fires in just two hours.
Crew manager Chris Wales said his officers were called to multiple incidents in the Plungington Road and Brook Street area of Preston in the early hours of Sunday, including one fire in Eldon Street at around 5am when a bin was dragged into the middle of the road and set alight.
He said: “We got called out to the first one at 4.30am and the last one was at 6.10am.
“These are just the ones we found or were alerted to. There may have been others.
“A couple were up against walls of properties, but didn’t cause any damage as such.
“We go through spurts of these kind of incidents and they have reduced a lot compared to in the past.”
