Fire crews across Lancashire are set to go on strike this evening.
Firefighters will walk out as part of an ongoing row over pensions, and tonight is due to be the first of three strikes.
They will strike between 7pm and midnight, on New Year’s Eve from 6.30pm until 12.30am and on January 3 from 6.30am until 8.30am.
Steve Harman, Lancashire secretary of the Fire Brigade’s Union (FBU), said: “It is very disappointing we are being forced to take industrial action at all, particularly at Christmas time. Until this government are prepared to talk to the FBU and come to an agreement on pensions, the strikes will continue.”
Chief fire officer Chris Kenny said emergency cover would be maintained, but urged the public to be extra vigilant.
