Motorists using the M6 northbound near Lancaster were affected by heavy traffic on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to an accident involving an overturned Land Rover Discovery, pulling a twin axle caravan between junction 33 at Galgate and junction 34 serving Lancaster, Morecambe, Kirkby Lonsdale, Heysham.
Fire crews from Lancaster Fire Station were called to the scene at 12.41pm.
A spokesman for the station said: “The Land Rover had overturned with the caravan, and was blocking lanes two and three of the northbound carriageway.
“We weren’t needed to use any kind of cutting or lifting equipment as all three occupants of the car were able to get out by themselves.
“They seemed to be alright, but they but were shaken.
“Crews from the North West Ambulance Service were also on hand and the occupants od of the car were taken for precautionary checks at hospital.
“The carriageway was blocked for some time while recovery took place, and queues built up.”
