Fire chairman’s expenses probe

editorial image

The chairman of Lancashire’s Combined Fire Authority, which oversees the activities of Lancashire fire and rescue service, has been forced to stand down temporarily following allegations about his expenses claims.

County Councillor David O’Toole, from Aughton near Ormskirk, was appointed in July 2009 and receives an allowance for the role, but has stood down whilst a probe takes place.

It is understood the vice chairman of the authority will take the lead in the interim period.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The chairman of the Lancashire Combined Fire Authority, David O’Toole, has decided to temporarily stand down from his position while allegations about his expenses claims are examined.”
