TWENTY firefighters were called to a large blaze at the former Whittingham Hospital site.
A member of public called for help after seeing flames leaping from a large pile of demolition waste at 1.30am on Friday.
Preston crew manager John Leach said: “This is a demolition site and there was a big pile of waste material and debris in the middle, around 200 square metres in size.
“When we got there, the fire was well developed and we had four pumps working on it.”
The cause of the fire is still unknown and 10 fire fighters were still at the scene at 8am on Friday.
