Fears for business over Tithebarn development
Steve Jackson has built his own thriving recycling empire and completed countless property deals – all from Preston.
Born and bred in Longton, on the outskirts of the city, he has always been committed to running his companies from where he started.
So, surely the arrival of millions of pounds of investment would be something he would welcome with open arms?
"I think Tithebarn is a fantastic thing," says the former Preston North End chief executive, "but only if it does not restrict everything else that is going on in the Greater Preston area which is where I have my businesses.
"The development is not an anchor holding us, it is the narrow-mindedness of the people at the top, they are using Tithebarn as a vampire sucking the life out of developments in the city.
"Unless things change, then I just fear Preston will fall by the wayside and if we keep looking to Tithebarn that is what will happen."
And he believes he is already seeing first-hand experience of this with his ambitions to create Preston's first casino in the former Fives building in the city centre having "hit a brick wall" in recent months.
