Ex-Preston manager Craig Brown walked side-by-side into Deepdale this morning with his former PNE skipper Graham Alexander.

And the Scot, who bossed North End between 2002 and 2004, was quick to pay tribute to Sir Tom Finney.

Brown said: “I was speaking to a former Preston player Davie Sneddon in Scotland last night.

“He had one season as a team-mate with Sir Tom and paid him a simple tribute by saying that to this day, he did not know whether Sir Tom was right or left-footed.

“That was because Sir Tom was so good with both feet, it didn’t matter which side of the pitch he played on.

“In my time at Preston North End, Sir Tom gave me good support and advice.

“Every week he was in the office to sign autographs and read letters which people had sent from all over the world.

“Whenever you mentioned the name of Sir Tom Finney, people will instantly refer to him as a gentleman.

“That is what he was, a perfect gentleman.”
