Around 50 properties lost power because of a fault with an underground cable in Preston city centre.

Electricity North West said the incident, which happened in Strand Road at around 6pm on Thursday, had also affected a set of traffic lights.

A spokesman for the company said: “We’ve got engineers on route to investigate this power loss.

“We believe it is a fault with an underground electricity cable.

“It is very localised and affecting around 50 customers we believe in the local area.

“We will aim to restore power as soon as we can.”

The incident was later resolved at around 8pm.
