A motorist who was nearly five times over the drink drive limit has been handed an 18-week prison sentence suspended for two years.

Gavin Perry, 35, of Arrowsmith Drive, Hoghton, Preston, pleaded guilty to committing the offence in an Alfa Romeo on December 5 last year.

Chorley Magistrates’ Court heard Perry had 164mg of alcohol in 100ml of his breath when he was stopped by police at the Texaco garage in Brownedge Road, Lostock Hall, on December 5 last year.

The legal limit is 35mg.

Magistrates banned Perry from the road for three years and told him to attend an alcohol-related course for 15 days. They also ordered him to pay an £80 victim surcharge plus £85 court costs.
