A man who crashed a car into a lamp post in a busy student area of Preston has been convicted of taking a vehicle without consent.

Netchell Mark Samuel Roocroft, from Cedar Road, in Ribbleton, Preston, is set to be sentenced by Preston Magistrates’ Court on June 20 after he took a Vauxhall vehicle and caused damage to it.

During a hearing, the 20-year-old pleaded guilty to a string of motoring offences including taking a vehicle without consent, failing to stop after an accident, and charges of driving without a licence or insurance which relate to the same date.

The bench heard he was involved in a collision with a lamp post on Maudland Road, Ashton, Preston, close to the University of Central Lancashire, after taking the vehicle on May 23 this year.

The case is adjourned for a pre-sentence report and Roocroft was granted conditional bail.
