Crime news

A pair of elderly people have been targeted with distraction burglaries in Leyland.

A man claiming to be “a crime prevention officer” talked his way into homes on Moss Lane and Broad Street in the town on Friday night.

He told the occupants he needed to check if there had been any thefts at the properties.

DC Carl Matthews, of South Ribble CID, said officers were linking the incidents which happened between 7.30pm and 8.15pm.

He said: “An amount of cash was taken from one of the properties.”
