Delays to continue on A59

Long delays are expected to hit motorists on a busy Lancashire road until the end of the week.

Lancashire County Council has confirmed one lane of the A59 between Preston and Southport will be shut to carry out repairs to Tarleton Bank Hall Bridge until Friday.

It led to long delays for motorists using the stretch on Tuesday with temporary traffic lights set up to control the flow of traffic.

Rob Goulding, highways manager, said motorists should look to find alternative routes while it carries out the work on the bridge parapet and crash barriers.

He said: “This work is causing some quite severe delays as the only way we can make the repairs safely is by closing one lane to traffic.

“We’re very sorry for the inconvenience to people whose journeys have been delayed and grateful for their patience while waiting to get past the works.

“Our crews are starting early and finishing late to get the job done as soon as we can and minimise disruption as far as possible.

“I’d ask drivers who have alternative routes available to consider using them while these works are ongoing.”
