Daring magician prepares for icy challenge

Bound in chains and submerged upside down in a barrel of icy cold water, he may well need a miracle to escape.

Daring Preston magician Andrew Green will be hoping luck is on his side when he attempts one of the most daring tricks ever – the Harry Houdini Chinese Water Torture Escape.

Andrew, 31, of Strand Road, Ashton, has been in training for the last 12 months as he prepares to be shackled before being plunged upside down into a container of water which is then sealed from the outside with locks.

The stunt, which was first performed by Harry Houdini in Berlin in 1912, will be performed in front of an audience of hundreds to raise money for St Catherine's Hospice.

A brand new container has been built for him to attempt the trick at the Charter Theatre in Preston on Thursday October 30 and he has been busily getting ready to wow the crowds.

He said: "Before I started training, I had to practise being upside down and submerged in water – it is very peaceful but that doesn't last for long. I cannot really let nerves get in the way and cloud what I am doing."

* The show will start at 7.30pm and tickets cost 12 for adults and 7 for children. To book, call 0845 3442012.
