Six vehicles have been seized by police as part of an operation to crackdown on metal theft.
Around 30 vehicles were stopped and checked and officers also visited five suspected metal thieves and four scrap metal dealers.
It came days after the new Scrap Metal Dealers Act - which states dealers need a licence and salvage operators and mobile collectors need to pass a test - came into force
Insp Alison Barff-Lewis said: “This operation provided us with the opportunity to ensure that scrap dealers are following the new regulations designed to clampdown on metal theft. Paperwork was checked and we ensured that dealers were verifying the identity of anyone bringing scrap to the business.
“We will continue to work with other agencies to deter criminals from stealing metal and to make it more difficult for them to dispose of it for cash. We will also continue to carry out regular operations to make our roads safer and ensure that motorists are abiding by the law.”
