Couple rescue from Morecambe Bay

Latest news

Latest news

A volunteer lifeboat crew from Morecambe and coastguards rescued a married couple who were caught out by the tide as they walked their dogs.

The local RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was called into action after the unnamed pair and their pets became stranded at in Morecambe Bay, off the coast of Arnside.

The couple rang Liverpool Coastguard, who then alerted the lifeboat crew at 11.20am yesterday.

When the lifeboat arrived it met up with the Arnside Coastguard Rescue Jet ski, which was assisting the holidaymaking couple who were then transferred to the Lifeboat for evacuation to waiting emergency services on the shore near far Arnside,

Chris Fisher, Probationary Helmsman onboard the lifeboat says “We encourage people to read sea safety notices and take extra care whilst walking on the sands as tides in the Morecambe Bay Area can be dangerous especially on a high spring tide”.

The couple and their dogs were unharmed.
