A husband and wife have been assaulted in Chorley.

The attack happened as they walked home between 9.30pm and 10pm on Sunday, June 29, in Park Road.

They were approached by a man and woman opposite the Astley Park gates, demanding to know why they had called them names. The male offender tried to punch the 66-year-old man, and as his 64-year-old wife stepped in to try and help, she was grabbed and pushed to the ground. When her husband tried to help his wife, he was also shoved into the road.

The male offender, said to be mid 20s to early 30s, and his female companion, of the same age, then ran off, possibly through Astley Park.

The man suffered cuts and grazing and the woman was left with bruising.

Police said it was “an appalling, unprovoked attack” and want to trace three Asian men who stopped to help the victims, as well as a man who was on a bicycle, who said he was on his way to work.

Call the police on 101.
