Convicted killer found hiding after five-day manhunt
Brian Lynch
A convicted murderer who fled while on day release from a Lancashire prison was caught cowering from police.
Brian Lynch, 44, was arrested by police at an address in the Gorton area of Manchester in the early hours of yesterday after five days on the run.
It is believed he was hiding behind furniture at the house when police swooped.
A 40-year-old woman was also arrested for harbouring an escaped prisoner and both were being held in police custody in Manchester.
A Lancashire Police spokesman confirmed officers had gone to the address after “receiving intelligence” the 5ft tall killer may be there.
She said: “Absconded prisoner Brian Lynch was arrested in the early hours of this morning at an address in the Gorton area of Manchester.
“A 40-year-old woman has been arrested for harbouring an escaped prisoner, and both are currently in police custody in Manchester.
“Lynch will be charged with absconding and will be sent back to prison.”
The arrest followed a five-day nationwide manhunt which started last Thursday afternoon when he went missing while on day release from Kirkham open prison.
He had spent 25 years behind bars for the violent murder of 21-year-old Chi Keung Yip in Calder Vale, Manchester, in 1981, and was moved to Kirkham in December to serve the rest of his sentence.
