College principal pays tribute to ‘popular’ student killed in crash

Tragic: Mihaly Besnyi

Tragic: Mihaly Besnyi

Preston College has paid tribute to a young student killed in a road accident this week.

Mihaly Besnyi, 17, from Ashton, was riding a 125cc Honda motorbike when he was involved in a crash with a black Ford Fusion car at the junction of Hardcastle Road and Lytham Road in Fulwood, on Wednesday.

The Preston College pupil, who was born in Hungary, was pronounced dead at the scene minutes later.

Lis Smith, principal and chief executive at Preston College, said teachers and students were saddened by his death.

She said: “Mihaly was a popular student who was well liked by his staff and peers at the college.

“He was making good progress in his English studies and was hoping to progress to study motorcycle engineering.

“Our thoughts are with Mihaly’s family at this very sad and difficult time.”

The Ford car was being driven by an 85-year-old woman from Preston, who suffered shock but was not injured.
