Children offered places at 'knight school'

A Lancashire theme park is offering children the chance to learn all about medieval jousting.

Camelot near Chorley is running a 'knight school' on Saturday July 11 for kids aged between six and 12.

They will be taught the art of knights' combat and the weaponry used, preparing as a knight for battle, the dressing of horses for the jousting tournament, and some juggling skills by Camelot's jester.

"Due to the popularity of the jousting tournament and children's fascination with knights, we have decided to let a number of lucky children take a behind-the-scenes peek at the Knights of the Round Table," said marketing manager Sandra Dempsey.

"Who knows...some of them may go on to be our jousters and jesters of the future!"

Youngsters hoping to be offered a place should, in no more than 50 words, say why they think they should be chosen for a place at Camelot's Knight School.

Include your name, age, address and a daytime contact number, and send to: Knight School, Alexander House, Station Brow, Leyland, Lancashire, PR25 3NZ. Or you can email knights@mtjpr.co.uk for more details.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday July 1. Winners will be notified by email or telephone by the end of July 3. They will be able to visit the park free of charge with up to three members of their family on July 11 and will attend the Knight School from 10.30-11.30am after which they will graduate with a certificate.
