CCTV clue over attack

These are the men police are hunting after a teenage soldier was savegely beaten in a vicious assault in Preston city centre.

Eyewitnesses reported how two men were seen stamping on the head of the 18-year-old troop during the attack in Grimshaw Street, Preston.

It is understood the attack only ended when a passing taxi stopped and shouted at them.

The victim was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital but was released earlier this week after doctors said his injuries were not as serious as first feared.

But police say they have launched an investigation and now want to speak to these two men about the incident.

Det Cons Marcus Latham, of Preston CID, said: “Identification is requested for two males believed responsible for the assault.

“Thankfully (the victim’s) condition has improved and has now been discharged from hospital with primarily swelling and bruising.”

Enquiries have led to CCTV images being captured of the two persons believed responsible for the assault.

The first attacker is described at being a white male, aged 20 to 25 years, 5ft 8in tall, with a stocky build and short dark hair.

He was wearing a white T-shirt and three quarter length trousers.

The second man is also white, 6ft tall, with a slim build and was wearing a short-sleeved white T-shirt and long, dark trousers.

The two men ran off down Church Street in the direction of Rumes Nightclub where they are said to have stopped and spoken with nightclub doormen before walking off towards the Warehouse nightclub on St John’s Place.

The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance from the scene and was said to have undergone a scan on Sunday morning.

Anyone with information or who was in the vicinity of the Old Dog pub and Rumes Nightclub – and saw the two men pictured – please contact Det Cons 3193 Latham, at Preston CID, on 01772 209750 or call Crimestoppers anonousmly on 0800 555 111.
