Car is torched in city centre

Latest news

Latest news

A car was set alight in a city centre street.

Firefighters were called to Schleswig Street, off Meadow Street, Preston, at around 8am on Thursday.

They said they believed the black Citroen Xsara Picasso may have been stolen and then torched by an offender.

Crew manager Paul Rigden said: “There was smoke coming from the passenger compartment on our arrival.

“The car was unlocked and we believed that the fire was started deliberately.

“There was nobody around and the fire involved the passenger compartment, not the electronics or anything that could have started a fire.

“It was on the seat on the driver’s side.”

Firefighters tackled the blaze for around an hour.

Police were called to the scene and assisted the owner.
