Work to repair the roof of Preston Playhouse has been completed.
A ‘Raising the Roof’ appeal was launched earlier in the year to raise cash for the £50,000 repair work.
The work is now costing £60,000 in total so organisers are organising a few fundraising events remain to help raise the cash.
Chairman Alex Tagg said: “The good weather during July the contractors, Kneen Developments of Leyland, were able to finish the roofing and insulation work at the Playhouse ahead of schedule.
“There remains some work to be done on safety features to reduce risk when carrying out future maintenance work, but by and large the project is complete. “Thanks to the wonderful support from the people of Preston who appreciate or be involved in live theatre, together with the generous grant of £5,000 from The Theatres Trust, the ‘Raising the Roof’ project has succeeded in raising almost £25,000.”
“When we started fund raising in January we ‘guestimated’ that the work would cost about £50,000 and we would need to raise about £20,000.
“Because of the marvellous support we have achieved that and more.
“However, the cost of the whole project has come in at about £60,000 so we have to raise a little bit more.
“To bridge the gap four final events are planned for the autumn, then the project will be closed. Details of these will be found on our website at www.prestonplayhouse.com”
