Motorists watched in shock as a man fell from a bridge above the M6 yesterday morning.
At around 8.30am police received calls that a man was lying on the northbound carriageway between junctions 32 and 33 at Scorton.
The man, believed to be in his late 40s, was airlifted to hospital, but his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
One witness, who asked not to be named, said: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“I saw him tumbling to the ground and then lying, face down on the ground.
“It was pretty horrific, not the kind of thing I was expecting on my way to work.”
Both carriageways were completely closed for a time for the air ambulance.
