The body of a chef who was swept into the sea on New Year’s Day is believed to have been found.

Lancashire Police believe the body of a man which was discovered off Fleetwood beach this morning is that of Paul Morris, 41, who was knocked into the sea by a wave when he was walking along the Promenade shortly after midnight.

Despite shoreline searches the father-of-two’s body was unable to be recovered at the time.

Police said formal identification has not been confirmed but members of Mr Morris’ family have been informed.

In the wake of the tragedy a major search and rescue operation was carried out by the emergency services, including lifeboat crews from Blackpool and Lytham. Crews were aided by Prince William, who was on board a Sea King Helicopter scrambled by RAF Valley in Anglesey to assist the search.
