Police are investigating

Police are investigating

A driver died at the wheel during an afternoon of tragedy on Lancashire’s roads which also saw a biker killed in a separate incident.

999 crews were called to Liverpool Road in Hutton, near Preston, at around 1.20pm on Sunday, amid reports one vehicle had crashed.

Firefighters from Penwortham and Leyland stations cut the driver free.

It is believed the motorist, who has not yet been named, died at the wheel.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision and police were due to release more details on Monday.

In a separate incident, a motorcyclist died in Pilling, near Garstang, after being thrown from his motorbike in a crash.

The collision happened at shortly before 12.45pm at the junction of Lancaster Road and Gulf Lane.

It is believed the Suzuki motorcycle was travelling along Lancaster Road, towards the town, when it collided with a VW Passat turning into Gulf Lane.

The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old man from Thornton, near Blackpool, was thrown from his bike and died.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward with information.

Sgt Jon Allwright, from Lancashire Police’s road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the families of the motorcyclist and the others involved.

“We are asking for anyone who may have seen the accident and who didn’t stop at the scene to contact the police.”

Anyone with information should call police on the non emergency number 101 and quote log number LC-20120304-0760.
