A benefit cheat who claimed more than £6,500 in housing and council tax benefit he was not entitled to has been ordered by a court to repay the money.
Peter Rimmer, 54, of Redwood Avenue, Leyland, pleaded guilty to two offences when he appeared before Preston Magistrates.
The court heard Rimmer failed to declare to South Ribble Council that he was in full time employment and was no longer entitled to benefits.
He falsely claimed £5,257 in housing benefit and £1,373 in council tax benefit between August 2011 and February 2013. He was fined £270 with costs.
South Ribble cabinet member Coun Phil Hamman, said: “This should serve as a warning that we treat benefit fraud very seriously and will continue to bring benefit fraudsters to justice. We have a duty to protect our taxpayers.”
