Attempted armed robbery at bookmakers
Latest news
Detectives are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery at a betting shop in Blackpool.
A man entered Betfred, on Westcliffe Drive, armed with what is believed to have been a handgun, and demanded money on Monday, January 7, around 7.30pm.
A male member of staff secured his own safety in the back office and the man left empty handed.
The man is described as white and was wearing a dark jacket which was zipped right the way up to his face and a white woollen hat, pulled down to his eyes.
Detective Inspector Andrew Unsworth said: “This was a very distressing incident for the member of staff involved, thankfully he was uninjured and, due to his calm and quick thinking, the offender got away with nothing.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen this man or anyone acting suspiciously to contact police.”
Anybody with any information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
