Three men wearing balaclavas robbed a bookmakers in Longridge.

At around 8.30pm on Monday night the three men, one carrying what appeared to be a spanner, entered the Betfred bookmakers on Berry Lane.

They threatened the female member of staff, who was alone in the shop at the time, jumped over the counter and took some money from the till.

They also took the staff member’s purse and mobile phone before leaving through the front door.

It is believed the men left the scene in a black or dark blue Vauxhall Vectra and drove away in the direction of Preston.

Police are today appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Officers are also investigating whether there is a link between this robbery and another on Friday when a Betfred shop in Leyland Road, Lostock Hall was also robbed .

Det Insp Jill Johnston said: “Fortunately, the lady who was working at the time, in Longridge, was not injured but she has understandably been left shaken by the ordeal and so I would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward and contact us.”

She added: “We are still at the early stages of the investigation but we are looking into the possibility that this may be linked to a similar incident at the Bet Fred store in Lostock Hall which happened on Friday night.

“I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this robbery or thinks that they saw the car driving away from the scene to come forward and contact Lancashire Police on 101.”

People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or visit the website at Crimestoppers-uk.org.

No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
