An 83-year-old man was pushed to the floor and burgled when he was confronted by a man on the doorstep of his Leyland home.
The pensioner answered a knock on the door of his home on Wellington Avenue where he was confronted by a man armed a knife.
The man pushed his way in and knocked the victim to the floor, before searching him and causing a cut to his hands.
He was then forced to hand over cash before the burglar fled.
Detective Sergeant Lee Anfield from Leyland CID said: “This is a horrific crime in which a vulnerable old man has been targeted in his own home.
“He was left very shaken by his ordeal and was taken to Royal Preston hospital for treatment to cuts to his hands.
“He is being cared for by family and neighbours but it is vital this man is caught and we need the public’s help.”
The offender is described as being a white man, aged in his late 30’s, 6ft tall and heavy build, spoke with local accent and was wearing a balaclava.
