Appeal after house raid terror

An elderly man fought off three masked raiders who tried to break into his home.

The incident happened in the early hours of the morning at the man’s home on Collidge Avenue, Lancaster.

At around 1.50am he and his wife were woken by someone ringing the doorbell.

And when he went to answer the door, he was confronted with the masked trio.

One of them tried to push past the man and get into his home.

But he and his wife bravely pushed the door closed and the three then ran off. It happed last Tuesday, January 31.

Police have today released details in a bid to track down the offenders.

Det Cons Tim Dodgson, of Lancaster CID, said: “Fortunately, in this case, the couple were able to prevent these men from getting in to their property but understandably, they have been left shaken by their ordeal.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have any information to come forward, particularly anyone who saw anything around the time of the incident itself or any suspicious activity in the area in the time leading up to it.”

It is believed that after the offence, the three men ran off down an alleyway on to Willow Lane.

One of the men was described as around 6ft 2in, of slim build and was wearing a balaclava, a dark fleece jacket with a zip and dark trousers.

The two other men have been described as around 5ft 10in and of slim build. They were also wearing balaclavas and dark clothing.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
