Police are appealing for information after an elderly lady was robbed in Blackpool.

The 81 year old lady, who is holidaying in the town, was taking a walk along the promenade from Knowle Avenue generally northwards between 7.45pm and 8.05pm on Monday (April 7th).

As she approached a shelter directly opposite the Fossil Tree Hotel, Queens Promenade she was approached from behind by two people one of whom grabbed her handbag, pulling her to the floor.

The offenders made off and after removing cash and a bank card, they discarded the handbag close by.

The victim, who is from Staffordshire, suffered some significant bruising to her hip and arm.

Det Con Neil Smith, of Blackpool Police, said: “This must have been a very frightening incident for this lady. I understand that there may well have been a number of people in the area at the time and I would ask that anybody who has witnessed the incident or has any information that would assist contact Blackpool Police on 101 quoting log number 1213 of April 7th.
