Lancashire’s air ambulance was called in after a serious road accident brought major rush hour traffic hold-ups at Penwortham on Friday.

The crash, involving one car, was reported to be on the Golden Way bypass near its junction with the A59 Liverpool Road.

Firefighters from Penwortham had to cut two people out of the wreckage of the vehicle and they were transported to the Royal Preston Hospital.

Traffic diversions were in place to try and ease congestion as the emergency services dealt with casualties.
