A grieving girl’s phone, containing precious pictures of her late father, was stolen by a teenager addicted to cannabis.
The 16-year-old defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before District Judge Jane Goodwin at Preston Youth Court.
He admitted a count of theft.
The court heard he snatched the phone from the young girl’s hand as she waited outside a friend’s house in Preston on April 27 this year.
He cycled away, despite her pleas.
Later he told police in interview he could not remember the incident, and that he had memory problems caused by smoking cannabis.
The court ordered him to pay £60 compensation to his victim, who did not get the phone back.
District Judge Goodwin, who said he was subject to a court order at the time of the theft, sentenced him to a six month rehabilitation order.
