Police in Lancashire have recruited 50 new police cadets to work within the South Ribble and Chorley communities.

The cadet scheme provides teenagers with the opportunity to develop their personal qualities and skills through a structured programme.

Sgt Al McMiken from the Southern Early Action Team, co-ordinating the cadet scheme across South Ribble and Chorley, said: “Training is already underway. The cadets will take part in a six-week induction programme which will focus on drill practice and classroom activities, where they will learn about the wider police family, what they do within the community, who they engage with and the various aspects of policing.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw added: “I am delighted so many youngsters are continuing to embrace the opportunity to become cadets in their area.”
