Little Luca Wilkinson was in such a hurry to enter the world last year and the past 12 months has been just as much of a whirlwind, his proud parents say.

In March 2013, Chrissie Hayton and fiancé Gareth Wilkinson were on their way to hospital when baby Luca decided he couldn’t wait any longer.

Now their little lad has celebrated his first birthday and the pair say his dramatic arrival has been a real talking point.

Luca, who turned one on March 12, was born in the back of his parents’ Nissan Juke, on Pope Lane outside the Black Bull Inn.

The family, who live in Sunbury Avenue in Penwortham, have enjoyed a ‘rollercoaster’ year and this one looks set to be just as busy as they plan their wedding.

Dad Gareth, 30, said: “We will certainly remember it. It’s been a great talking point, that day and how it came about, how it happened, the suddenness of the birth.

“It’s been a fantastic rollercoaster to be on.”

He added: “It’s been brilliant. Luca is doing really well and it has been quickest year of my life.

“It has been a whirlwind but fantastic at the same time. I’ve loved every minute of it.

“He’s into everything, he makes as much noise as possible. He is a really happy little boy.”

Mum Chrissie added: “I can’t believe how quickly the year has gone. It feels like it was a few months ago.

“It’s been thoroughly enjoyable. It’s tiring but it has been fantastic.

“Luca is doing really well, he’s very vocal, he let’s you know he is there.

“Everybody asks me about him, ‘the carpark baby.’ A few people have asked me if it has put me off - but it hasn’t!”

After the dramatic arrival Luca was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance. He weighed 6lbs 12oz and had a short stay in the neonatal ward before returning home.
