lep.co.uk to get a new-look website

The Lancashire Evening Post's award-winning website is getting a makeover.

Soon, lep.co.uk will look - and work - differently, making it simpler to navigate and easier on the eye.

All sections will be accessible direct from the home page using smooth drop-down menus, pictures will be bigger and of better quality, and commenting on articles will be more strictly controlled - signalling the end of random and serial deleters.

There will be tighter guidelines on adding and removing comments beneath articles. Anything reported unsuitable will be checked first by LEP staff and, if appropriate, then deleted before it disappears off the site.

Stories will be split into four main categories of news, sport, lifestyle and community, each of which leads to relevant sub-sections.

The new website is currently being tested and can be viewed at http://beta.lep.co.uk before it is expected to go live during April.

Headlines and stories run across three columns and another new feature is a site map at the bottom of every page, meaning all the main parts of lep.co.uk are just one click away.

Some readers might need time getting used to the new site and, initially, finding the content they want; for example, it's worth noting that the long list of news stories will in future be found by clicking on Local in the dropdown menu.

And not all sections will be fully populated when we go live due to the huge effort involved in filling such a large website.

So please be patient while we undergo this big change, though we do welcome your constructive comments and suggestions as to how we may continue to improve our online offering.

Please give us your valued feedback by emailing us at webmaster@lep.co.uk and do register on the new site now so you can start posting comments immediately.
