Care firm plans 250 jobs

An international care firm has plans to create up to 250 new jobs at its Preston head office in the next five years.

Right at Home, one of the biggest providers of in-home care in the United States, has opened its UK office on the Riversway Business Village on the city's docklands.

It is already employing 20 staff, including carers working out of the headquarters, and expects that number to grow to more than 50 by the

end of the year.

Managing director Ken Deary said it planned to create a network of new

offices throughout the country by 2015, creating up to 2,000 jobs nationwide.

"We picked Preston over a number of different cities to open our headquarters in the UK because of the access to a skilled workforce and the excellent transport links there are here.

"We are committed to supporting the local economy and if, for example, we require mobility aids for our customers we will seek to source them from a local supplier.

"One of our first jobs will be to speak with firms in the local area to create a supply chain to ensure our arrival brings benefits throughout the economy."

The boss said the recruitment drive had already started with key positions within the head office being filled and predicted that up to 50 workers would carry out administrative roles within five years.

Mr Deary, who has worked in the care industry the last three years, said: "We are an ageing population and that percentage of people aged over 65 is only going to keep on growing, so the need to help people live at home with dignity is going to grow.

"I think everyone recognises we have a potential age time bomb on our hands and we expect to see this sector continue to grow as a result."

Right at Home UK has already opened talks with local housing associations and care providers at Preston Council and Lancashire County

Council about fostering working relationships.
