300 homes given cash kick-start

Five stalled developments to build more than 300 homes in Lancashire have been kick-started by nearly £3.8m of Government cash.

The projects will see 195 homes built at Cedar Walks, Lex and Rivington View in Chorley, with a further 55 at Millers Green in Heysham, near Morecambe and 58 at Fleetwood Harbour on the Fylde coast.

They are among 141 'mothballed' schemes which have been handed cash through the KickStart programme on the proviso construction firms take on apprentices and provide affordable homes within the developments.

Housing minister John Healey said the cash would also get work back underway on these sites and help safeguard hundreds of jobs with house-builders.

He said: "We are putting the weight of Government investment into building much-needed affordable homes, keeping people in work and giving young people a chance of apprenticeships. "

Phil Woolas, minister for the North West, added that the latest 10.5m cash injection would restart the building of 805 homes throughout the region.

He added: "As well as protect jobs and create opportunities for apprentices throughout the region which can only be good news."
