Lancashire County Council (LCC) is looking to reduce the amount it spends on legal experts in relation to Child Protection cases.
In 2012/13, LCC spent approximately £400,000 on legal experts in such cases, and a further £215,000 on other non-legal expert assessments.
Psychological assessments can vary in cost from £850 to £2,100 per assessment.
A new proposal to go before cabinet members, involves LCC working with unitary authority partners, Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen Councils to reduce the number of experts used and their associated costs.
Over a four-year period, it is thought that a combined framework would cost in the region of £1,4m.
LCC claims there would be no impact on the level of service, and it gives an opportunity for experts to decide a standard fee or a tier system for cases.
If passed, the changes could be implements from April
