Lawyers seek more on books

The new boss of a Lancashire law firm has vowed to boost the county's jobs market with its own recruitment drive.

Stephen Hodgson, chief executive of Marsden Rawsthorn, in Fulwood, Preston, has said it will be looking to take on experts from the local area as it bids to recruit 20 fee earners in the next year.

It comes as the firm expands its workforce to cope with a boom in demand for family law, personal injury and employment law departments.

The firm has already taken on former Royal Bank of Scotland director Terry Riding as its finance director and three new workers in its matrimonial law department in the last three months.

Mr Hodgson said: "Wherever possible we will look to recruit from the local area and I am sure there is enough talent around here to do that.

"The aim is to have 20 new fee earners on our books by 2011 and those will come in the areas where the demand from our customers is the strongest."

He said the firm's new offices at Faraday Court, in Fulwood, would be a major attraction for getting the cream of talent from Lancashire's legal community.

It relocated to the purpose-built development last summer following the merger between Marsden Solicitors and Rawsthorn Solicitors in 2007.

Mr Hodgson said: "It was a bold step to put the kind of investment we did into opening new offices in Fulwood and I believe our location is one of our biggest selling points as an employer.

"There are obviously benefits from being in Preston city centre as we were previously but the connections we have here at Fulwood are far superior."
