The leader of Preston Council has said exit polls putting Conservatives close to a majority may not be correct.

Speaking at the General Election count at Preston Guild Hall, Coun Peter Rankin said: “I don’t think the exit poll is correct - I think Labour will get more and the Tories will get fewer.

“There are lots of marginal contests, and how can you predict a national result based on an exit poll throughout the country, when really it’s dependent on a very few marginal seats and, essentially, very few people deciding how they are going to vote.”
