Late blow for boxing fans?
Late-night boxing will be shown in a Preston pub if a bid to open until 6am is approved.
The Assembly on Lune Street is seeking to extend its licence on Saturday nights when live sport is being broadcast.
If permission is granted it would be among the latest opening venues in the city centre.
A spokesman said: "In response to customer demand, we have applied for a licence to open the Assembly until 6am on Saturdays in order to show live coverage of overseas sporting events, such as major boxing matches being staged in America.
"However, for the majority of Saturdays, when these live events are not being staged, the bar will close at the usual time of 3.30am."
The company has applied to sell alcohol until 6am and "late night refreshment" of hot food and drinks until 5am.
Current restrictions on the licence mean the bar, which is owned by TCG Acquisitions, is only allowed to open until 3.30am.
Preston's bar with the latest licence is Loft, in Glover's Court, which has permission to open until 6.30am.
The Old Dog Inn, Church Street, is also allowed to trade until 4.30am.
The Assembly was Preston's former Public Hall and Corn Exchange and famously hosted a gig by the Beatles in 1963.
Anyone with representations about the application should contact Preston Council's licensing department before December 21.
