The owners of a plot of derelict land have been asked to tidy it up after firefighters were called to put out blazing rubbish.

Police spotted the fire in Frank Street, Preston at around 4.40am on Saturday and alerted fire crew who used a hose reel to extinguish it.

A fire brigade spokesman said: “There was an amount of rubbish which had been fly-tipped there and set on fire.

“There was also a considerable amount of other rubbish which has been fly-tipped over a period of time by people throwing stuff over the fence.

“We are now working with the council and the landowner to get it removed and the site made more secure.”
