The former Mayor of Clitheroe, Kevin Horkin, will be attending the funeral of Cilla Black in Liverpool on Thursday..
He be there as a representative of The Community Foundation for Lancashire and Merseyside - a charitable trust Cilla supported which helps donors to support their community by channelling money into community projects.
Mr Horkin, a Ribble Valley businessman, first met Cilla more than 24 years ago and she contributed to his two books on celebrity pets.
He said: “She was a strong proponent of responsible pet ownership which was a key message of both books. She was also a promient supporter of the Community Foundation and believed in giving back to the people who helped her achieve the fame she richly deserved.
“Cilla was a strong believer in Conservative Party policies, particularly the Big Society which focuses on delivering help and assistance to less well-off members of society.
“She gave of her time freely and unstintingly and was never too busy to attend charitable events hosted by the charity.
“She attended three events I have hosted for the Community Foundation – two at Number 10 Downing Street with the Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife, Samantha and more recently last year with the Chancelor George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer at Number 11 Downing Street.”
