Flytipping woe of estate shops

FLYTIPPING problems around a set of shops on a city estate are to be monitored, police have said.

Residents raised concerns about waste dumped at shops on Savick, Preston during a PACT meeting.

The meetings are at Oaktree Court, Preesall Road, the first Tuesday of each month.

Beggars cause ‘concern’ in city

RESIDENTS have continued to complain about begging in Preston city centre streets, including Friargate, Fishergate and Avenham Street.

The issue will be discussed at an “online” PACT meeting with city centre police officers via Facebook and Twitter, from 7pm on November 9.

Woman banned

WENDY Wondinski, 57, of Lincoln Road, Lancaster, is banned from driving for 18 months after admitting drink driving and must pay a £190 fine, £20 surcharge and £85 costs, Lancaster magistrates ruled.

Thwaites calls time on brewery

BREWER Daniel Thwaites is planning to demolish its iconic headquarters in the centre of Blackburn.

The company, due to move to a new £10m site near Samlesbury within three years, has announced the landmark Star Brewery in Penny Street will be pulled down.

Thwaites, well known for its shire horse drays, supplies more than 300 pubs in the UK.

Fined for shunt

AN uninsured driver who caused a three-car shunt when he failed to stop in time was fined a total of £700 by magistrates.

Mark Shepherd, 37, of Ashford Road, Lancaster was found guilty of driving without due care and attention and without insurance.

Phone thefts

Dwayne Anthony Leahy, 20, of Regent Road, Morecambe was ordered to do 175 hours unpaid work after admitting stealing two mobile phones. He was also ordered to pay £240 in compensation.
