An award-winning Hollywood make-up artist is preparing to attend the coveted Oscars ceremony this week – after last week’s BAFTA win.

Mark Coulier, from Farington, who already has an Academy Award after winning it for his work on the Iron Lady in 2012, is now up for the make-up and hairstyling gong at this year’s Oscars.

He and colleague Frances Hannon walked away with the British Academy Film and Television Award for make-up and hair last week, for their efforts in prosthetic make-up on The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Mark, who attended the ceremony at London’s Royal Opera House, said: “I’m overjoyed, and it was great fun.

“It was a fantastic event and party, hobnobbing with the rich and famous.

“I was surprised but delighted when we won. There was some stiff competition so I feel very fortunate.”

Mark’s work involved applying ‘old age’ make-up to actress Tilda Swinton, and creating a bald head and fake nose for actor Harvey Keitel.

He’s now preparing himself for the 87th Academy Awards this Sunday.

“I’m flying over to LA on Thursday,” he said.

“I’m quite hopeful, we have a chance, so fingers crossed.

“I’m very excited. It’s always great to be nominated, and if you win, it’s a bonus.”

Dad-of-three Mark, who is creative director of make-up effects company, Coulier Creatures FX, is also known for his work on the Harry Potter films, X-Men: First Class, Alien vs Predator, Star Wars,
and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

He has also worked on TV shows Merlin and Little Britain.
