Snow, ice and hail greeted Lancashire as the county woke up this morning.

Drivers across the county have taken to social media complaining about the lack of grit on roads in certain areas, following a yellow weather warning from the Met Office for wintery conditions.

County Councillor John Fillis, Lancashire County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, yesterday said: “We’re well prepared for the wintry weather with over 30,000 tonnes of salt in stock and 49 gritters at our ten depots across the county.”

The Met Office warning for today predicts gusts of wind reaching up to 50-65mph through the North West with wintry showers expected to continue into the night.
