Knit one, purl one, roof one for Haiti

School teacher Rachael Cottle is a big knit.... and doesn't care how knows it.

The crafty drama teacher is casting on to raise funds for the people of earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

Rachael, who works at Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre, in Kirkham, is one of four knitters giving up their time to help the project.

They have each knitted an area of more than 37,000 stitches in a bid to make a blanket which will be to be auctioned for Mdecins Sans Frontires (MSF).

The charity is using the money from the auction and donations to Rachael and the team to help mend a roof on a clinic in Haiti.

So far Rachael has managed to raise 67 from donations at Carr Hill and she is hoping to boost this with the auction and the other knitters' contribut-ions.

She said: "This came about because two friends of mine work for Unicef and they've been going out to Haiti to help with MSF.

"They really need the money for this clinic so this is a great way of helping.

"I enjoy knitting so to use my ability to raise some money seemed a good way to contribute."
