Young music fans will be able to watch a performance from one of the world’s biggest classical superstars for free this summer.

Katherine Jenkins OBE has waived admission fees for youngsters at a concert in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice.

The Welsh classical cross-over star will headline the Lostock Hall hospice’s annual Symphony at the Tower concert on July 5.

Youngers aged 16 and under will be able to attend the show without charge, after Katherine and the event organisers decided the outdoor concert was a way to open up classical music to a new audience, while providing inspiration for budding singers and musicians.

The popular event, held in the grounds of Hoghton Tower, is a chance to see the multi-platinum selling artist perform with regular collaborator Anthony Inglis and the National Symphony Orchestra.

Katherine said: “I’m really looking forward to my summer concert in Lancashire

“There’s not a more perfect way to spend a summer’s evening than outside with family, friends and music. I wanted to make the evening as accessible as possible to all and a real family occasion – hence the decision to waive the admission fee for youngsters.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the encouragement of my own family and the exposure they gave me to all kinds of different music when I was growing up.

“I know from my experience as a mentor on Pop Star to Opera Star that there is enthusiasm for the kind of music I perform among younger people. Hopefully hearing it performed live - in such a beautiful setting, surrounded by friends and family, whilst supporting a wonderful charity - will make it even more appealing. And who knows, there may be the next Placido Domingo or Sarah Brightman in the audience who will be inspired to follow their dreams!”

Tickets for the show are on sale now from.stcatherines.co.uk or from the hospice in Lostock Lane, Lostock Hall, priced at £34.50 until May 31 - with one child admitted free per accompanying paying adult. Customers should enter code KJ16FREE when buying tickets to access the discount.

The first night of the event welcomes global superstar James Blunt on Friday July 4.
